Freeport Reopens 2023 Christmas Travel Program

December 8 marked the start As in previous years,of PT Freeport Indonesia’s annual Christmas Travel program for employees and their families going on holiday or back home to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

A kick-off event was held at Perintis Airport/ Mozes Kilangin Airport in Timika, Mimika, Central Papua. Vice President of Papuan Affairs Development, Soleman Faluk, provided opening remarks. The event was attended by airline representatives and ranking members of the TNI and Polri. The program travel period for 2023 includes departures starting December 8 through December 23 and returns starting January 6 through January 20.
Faluk explained this program is part of the company's commitment to providing services for employees, especially those from around Tanah Papua celebrating Christmas in their hometowns. "This Christmas flight program is not a new program but is an annual program that has been running for several years. We know that Christmas is the best time for employees to happily gather with their families," he explained.
Soleman Faluk hopes this program will help employees. This is because flights in several remote areas of Papua have very limited access. "I urge passengers to follow all the Committee's directions, so that things that we don't want don't happen, especially regarding safety," he said.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the 2023 Christmas Travel Committee, Paul Laly, in his report stated that as many as 3,710 employees and their families took part in the Christmas travel program this year. PTFI, through the committee, has provided a program budget of IDR 20 billion. This year, the committee used 11 chartered aircraft. "This is a favorite program for Papuan employees, and I need to say that not many companies are willing to budget or incur large costs just to ensure their employees can return to their hometowns to celebrate Christmas. "We know that Papua is still an area with quite expensive ticket costs," he said.
Paul added there are six areas, called Red Zones, where flights cannot be served this year because they are prohibited by the Police based on security factors, namely the Alama, Bela, Beoga, Ilaga, Intan Jaya/Sugapa areas, and Kuyawage.
"For people who live along the coast, the company helps by providing fuel for transportation using speed boats or traditional community boats, so that they can take other families on the trip," he said. (Hendrikus)
